Are you pleased with your completed designs? Why or why not?

All in all, I'm okay with how my designs turned out. I wish that I had a better concept of layout, and maybe even balance. I felt that my images were passable, but could be intertwined better.

Design Element Excercises

Self Portrait with Personalities

Describe your color palette, how the colors represent you?

  • My color palette included light blue, purple, orange, and yellow (it looks more like white). Each color shows how passionate, giving, resourceful, and practical I'am.

Compositionally, discuss your use of space/ negative space - how well did you fill the space, too much empty space? Did you overlap imagery?

  • I overlaped each image in a sort of staircase pattern. I feel like I have a little too much white space, but I do like how I enlarged the second image to be a sort of background.

What methods did you use to make imagery and text stand out?

  • I learned that anything that provides a shadow really makes the words pop. I also liked flipping the negavite and postive values because I thought it brought out its imagery.

Do you have a focal point? Does one image stand out as more important? If so, how did you get it to attract attention?

  • I think the closet thing to a focal point would be the practical image. The white-ish outline makes it stand out a bit, and I really like how it contrasts againist the other colors.

Overall, are you happy with the end product? Why or why not?

  • I' am okay with the end product, but I wish I had overlaped the practical image over the resourceful image better. I also wish I had chosen a better background.

Discuss your imagery - how it reveals information about your personality/ life

My image includes my family, friends, and my interests. The quote includes one of my philosophies, and I thought it fit a part of my personality perfectly.

Discuss what you did to make the imagery interesting, eye-catching and flow throughout your composition.

I made the image of my friends dim into the background, and I did my best to not make all the images the same size. I also made the words in the quote look different with different effects.

Discuss your use of text: what did you do to make the text (song lyrics, quote, saying) both legible but also designed as part of the overall composition.

I chose two colors to design the words with (blue and green). and I chose different tones of each color for each word in a pattern. I illuminated important parts of the quote to make it more noticeable.

How did you decide what to advertise?

To be honest I based my choice entirely on the pun eggcelance. I thought it was a cool egg too.

How successful were you in convincing a consumer to purchase your product? Discuss an element of your ad that is attention-grabbing.

I think the placement of the enlarged egg at an angle provided a nice attention getter/background.

Is your use of text effective? What are some methods you used to make sure your text was legible? Easy to understand? Etc.

I really used a lot of effects on the text, but it was hard to make my text stand because I was unable to use drop shadow. Illuminating the words was probably the most effective way to make my text stand out.

Would you buy this product based upon your ad?

If I was interested in this type of product I may be inclined to purchase it, but in all honesty, I feel the ad lacks a bit of professionalism.

Descriptive Self-Portrait

Why did you select this particular subject to recreate?

I chose an image of books because I enjoy reading quite a bit. I also like the look of the image's shading.

Overall, how successful were you in your creation? Discuss an area that you are proud of and what you used or did in that area.  Similarly, discuss an area you feel is weak and how it could have been improved.

Ironically, I feel I really struggled with shading. It was very difficult for me to add the correct shading. I used the blur tool to blend the black into the colors, but it also bent a lot of the lines I made. I'm proud of the top background and the bookmark. I used a gradient for the background and I added different colored, lowered opacity circles to each image. For the bookmark, I used the blur tool.

Are you feeling more confident in your photoshop skills having completed this project?

Yes, in I way I'm more confident because I have defiantly learned the importance of making a new layer each time. but I still lack understanding in tools that may help me with shading.

Image Re-creation

Animal Morph

Angry Object

Describe your assignment, why you selected the object, how you were able to use the liquify tool, how successful you feel you were in bringing the inanimate object to life full of emotion, favorite and least favorite parts.
I selected a sofa chair because I thought that the cushion line was dominant enough to add features to it. I was sadly unable to find the liquify tool because I made this at home with a different cheaper program. I tried my best to achieve the same affects as the liquify tool, for I used the blur tool on the teeth in order to stretch them out a bit. I feel I did decent at bringing the object to life, but I was limited a ton by the cheap program I was using. So, I couldn't really make the features meld with the sofa chair, and I couldn't really make the features work with each other. My favorite part was the teeth because it was the one feature I could really use the blur tool on. My least favorite was making all the features match up proportionally, and ensuring that they all had a part.

How successful do you feel you were in creating a new “species” of animal?

I think I did okay considering I made it at home. The program I was using didn't have as many useful tools as Photoshop, so I was unable to really do much with the text, shading, and the animal itself.

Discuss a tool or technique you feel you used well in morphing your creatures.

I think I did really well changing the cat's color to green in order to help it blend easily with the iguana. It took me a long time to find and use the tool to do so.

If there was a weak area, what is it and how could it have been improved?

I wish I had erased more around the tail so the white outline doesn't show. The text is kinda disappointing, but I think i did okay on the font choice. All in all, it would've been much easier to make this with  Photoshop.
